Is a Free Credit Report Really Free?

Many companies are offering to provide a free credit report. The question is "Do you have to pay to get a “free” credit report?"  Well, if you’re not careful you may do just that.

Some “free” sites use interest generated by the FTC’s new laws to get you to request the report from their website. When you request your free report, they upsell you with credit protection and monitoring services. Some require you to provide confidential information and a credit card to receive your free report.

You can avoid this by requesting the report directly via the FTC’s own website or calling 1-877-322-8228.
